Mr. Moloyan was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1933, to Armenian Genocide survivors Yeghia Moloyan and Vartouhi Haladjian. He attended the Antelias Seminary of the Holy See of Cilicia and then taught at the St. Tarkmanchatz School in Damascus, Syria. A year later, Mr. Moloyan began his 25 year tenure as an educator at the Sahag-Mesrobian School in Beirut, Lebanon where he was eventually promoted to Vice Principal. During this period, Mr. Moloyan continued his education in Armenian Studies at Beirut’s St. Joseph University. In 1954, Mr. Moloyan established the Nor Serount Cultural Association (NSCA) alongside Jirair Nairi, Hagop Norouni, Hrant Kankrouni, Sarkis Khaian, and Aram Demirjian. In 1965, Mr. Moloyan participated as the first Armenian educator at the 4th Conference of Arab Educators in Alexandria, Egypt. In 1970, Mr. Moloyan was invited to participate in the Eastern Germany Educators Conference in Berlin and was introduced to the region’s educational-cultural institutions and programs.

During this period, Mr. Moloyan served as Chairman of the Nor Serount Cultural Association and organized various cultural events including concerts for musicians and dance troupes from Armenia, and events honoring world-renowned Armenian opera singer Gohar Gasparyan.

In 1973, Mr. Moloyan was appointed as the representative of ARMENPRESS in Lebanon. In 1974, Mr. Moloyan was invited to participate in the Educators Conference in Armenia as one of the leader-representatives for diasporan educators. During that same trip, Mr. Moloyan was invited by ARMENPRESS to participate in a meeting of Armenian editors which included discussions on the state of the industry.

Due to the Lebanese Civil War, Mr. Moloyan permanently moved to the United States of America in 1976. The next year, Mr. Moloyan helped establish the Los Angeles chapter of the Nor Serount Cultural Association and the Armenian Athletic Association and served in various leadership positions for each organization. Mr. Moloyan was also instrumental in the founding of the local bilingual newspaper “Massis Weekly” and has been a volunteer member of its Editorial Board since its inception in 1981.

In 1984, Mr. Moloyan joined the Parish Council of Pasadena’s St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church and with a group of Armenian-American compatriots decided to establish the St. Gregory Hovsepian School. Mr. Moloyan has also served on the Board of Directors of ArmeniaFund for 12 years and served on the Board of Trustees of the Armenian American Museum and Cultural Center for the past 9 years.

On the occasion of Nor Serount Cultural Association’s 50th Anniversary in 2005, Mr. Moloyan was honored with the Pontifical Encyclical of His Holiness Karekin II and the St. Nerses Shnorhali Medal in recognition for his decades of service and leadership in the community.

For more than 70 years, Gabriel Moloyan has served the Armenian community with unwavering dedication. From the Middle East to the United States, Mr. Moloyan has been a beloved fixture in the Armenian national, political, educational, cultural, and news media spheres. He is devoted to pass on his vast wealth of experience to new generations of Armenian-American leaders, and encourage their commitment to the Armenian-American community.
